Oh my goodness what a night! Here is the run down:
11pm I go to bed.
2am JM is screaming. She says her stomach hurts.
3am It still hurts, no vomit, and it feels like "knives in my tummy!" And she wants to go to the hospital!
4am We go. JM and I WAIT in the EMPTY Emergency Room. You would truly think folks would be quick and with it in an empty ER, but no such luck. Perhaps we weren't really in a super duper emergency situation, so they slow down in order to dissuade us from coming again. Who knows. They were all very friendly though. After X-rays we discovered JM had severe constipation. This was my guess, but I just didn't want to ignore screams in the night, just in case. This is not the first time we had to get X-rays for this condition! It's baffling really because she isn't exactly text book in that she eats a lot of fiber and she does poop daily...Yes I know, too much information, but it's true and weird and I can't figure out why she keeps getting constipated. Although my new theory is that since she does have a high fiber diet for a child that maybe she isn't getting enough water to wash it through her system.
7am Home again and very short on sleep. We administer medicine and head to bed.
8:30am Hubby loudly gets ready for work whistling!!?????!!! I tell hubby to STOP IT!!! Hubby heads to work and gives the waking JC chocolate milk and pretzels, turns on the TV and tells her not to wake up Mommy and JM.
9:45am I figure I better get up and check on JC. I never could get fully asleep anyway. I actually didn't know Hubby was not there and as I open my bedroom door there is a quiet little face with her head to the floor trying to spy on sleeping Mommy through the crack under the door! How sweet is that!?
10:30am JM awakes! We still have a few issues through the rest of the day, but by the end of the day she appears fine.
Side Note on the ER:
JM did not scream of pain once. I knew she was still in pain and I asked her why she screams at home, but not the hospital. JM says "Because th
ose people might hear me." Augh. Apparently Mommy and Daddy WANT to hear screaming!
Another thing is JM thought the hospital was SOOOO cool. Like we went to some cool place for mommy/daughter time at 3 AM or something! She asked about all the equipment and they let her watch cartoons and drink juice in the middle of the night. Sheesh. She is really interested in all the technical stuff too, equipment I am clueless about. She did ask me about the oral thermometer she saw on the wall though, something she has never had to use and I explained how it works. The nurse came in to use it on her and she immediately opens her mouth and lifts her tongue like she's done it a million times. And of course this afternoon I say, "I sure hope we don't have to go to the hospital again, do you?" JM: "Yes Mom, it's fun." Honestly, they shouldn't make it so fun for the sake of my doctor-loving children! I suppose it's a good thing my kids like going to the doc and perhaps it's a sign they'd be very comfortable in the medical field one day!?
Oh and the ER co-pay? A hundred bucks. The experience to my 4-year-old? Priceless! haha
