Well, thought I'd share my new "thing." My kids are not the greatest eaters in the world. (Although definitely NOT the worst) This is likely one of the reasons they so easily remain so trim because just because they don't like a lot of food I don't let them go crazy on sweets. Although, some days I want too! Luckily the girls are both big on dairy, which at least that is a nice healthy part of their diet. So where does this leave me? Lacking in veggies!!! Yes, there are a few fruits and veggies they will tolerate, but I do wish they'd eat more.
Part of their finickiness I am sure is age, but I was recently interested in a new recipe book that came out called "Deceptively Delicious" by Jessica Seinfeld. Basically, she has created kid foods using vegetable purees. The purees are hidden in the food. Now, I have heard a few folks say YUCK about this, but so far it is working for us! We've tried her brownies, macaroni and cheese and chicken nuggets. Now all of it still tastes different but its pretty good and most importantly pretty palatable for the kids! So much so that some purees that I stuck in the freezer I've started experimenting by putting it in other food. ie. I put some broccoli puree in turkey meatloaf. It was good! What's even better is that so far I've tried the recipes for free! Oprah has several recipes on her site. I've been warned that maybe I will be getting this book soon as a gift, so I am patiently waiting! ;-
Anyhow, I definitely think this method is worth a shot for picky eaters.
